Panel Discussion | The Arc of the Museum Acquisition
Sponsored by Foley & Lardner LLP + HUB International
12:00 p.m.
Nasher Sculpture Center, 2001 Flora St, Dallas, TX 75201
This year marks the fifteenth anniversary of Dallas Art Fair. Central to its identity is the Dallas Art Fair Foundation Dallas Museum of Art Acquisition fund, through which the DMA has acquired over forty-five works of art from the fair over the past seven years. For an artist, the moment of a museum acquisition is often profound and life changing. How do curators approach the process of acquisition from an art fair and what does it mean for an artist? Why is it important for an art fair to collaborate with its city’s museums and how does this impact the fabric of the city over time?
Please join moderator John Sughrue (co-founder of Dallas Art Fair) with panelists Katherine Brodbeck (Hoffman Family Senior Curator of Contemporary Art at Dallas Museum of Art), Darragh Hogan (Director of Kerlin Gallery, Dublin), Johnny Floyd (artist represented by Conduit Gallery), and Jessica Levin Martinez (The Richard J. Schwartz Director of the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University) as they discuss the web of powerful synergies between fair, museum, gallery, artist, collector, student, and city through the lens of the museum acquisition.
Registration requested. Register here.
