WINE REVIEW: 2012 Donum Pinot Noir, Estate Grown, Carneros, CA ($68)

by Andrew Chalk

We waited a few years before tasting this wine because we know that Donum Estate can be worth the wait. This example doesn’t disappoint. It is a mature, sophisticated Pinot Noir that doesn’t just project fruit, in fact the fruit is present, but separately.

Appearance: Medium intense garnet hue.

Nose: Glorious forest-floor, mushrooms, ripe raspberries. Complex and ever re-balancing between the components.

Palate: Soft tannin, deep, resolved fruit and forest-floor attributes.

Warm lingering finish.
