Appearance: Bright dark ruby;
Nose: Strident pyrazines. Dark fruit. Black currant;
Palate: Ribena. Black currant. Soft tannins. Fruit forward.
Carménère is a Bordeaux variety that fares much better in Chile on account of the warmer climate. It is virtually pulled out of Bordeaux but may go back as a response to climate change.
This represents the popular Concha y Toro brand going up the quality ladder with a reserva level. If pyrazines (the green pepper notes in certain grapes) are copacetic with your palate then this is a pleasant wine with red meat or just to quaff.
Very reasonable price.
