WINE REVIEW: Bertani 2020 Valpolicella Ripasso DOC, Italy ($32)

Valpolicella Ripasso is Valpolicella that has been ‘spiked’ with dried grapes. This increases the flavor intensity and complexity. Bertani is one of the most respected producers of this style of wine from Veneto (roughly ‘greater Venice’) and the wines deserve a bigger following in the US market. I recommend this wine and the category Valpolicella. To find the good ones go to a wine store with reliable, experience staff.

TASTING NOTES

Appearance: Crimson hue with translucent intensity;

Nose: Rose buds, cloves, thyme;

Plate: Dry palate with soft tannins. Forceful cherry fruit.

Sample.
