WINE REVIEW: Merriam Vineyards, 2018 Estate, Windacre Vineyard, Cabernet Sauvignon ($60)

andychalk

Russian River Valley, Sonoma County.

by Andrew Chalk

When you hear "Russian River Valley," world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are likely to come to mind - but this remarkable region also produces dozens of other varieties. The AVA is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and winegrowing here dates back more than 150 years - so there is a rich history of experimentation and innovation.

TASTING NOTES

Appearance: Opaque ruby;

Nose: Raspberries, French oak,

Palate: Raspberry fruit fills the mouth. Grippy tannins line the palate. Oak very noticable.

Sample.
